5 burnt while refilling cooking gas cylinder in Dinajpur

Five people, including three children, sustained burns in a fire that broke out at a house in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur on Saturday afternoon while refilling a cooking gas cylinder.

The injured are — Md Jahidul, 35, his son Md Joy, 13, Mosammat Shahana, 35, wife of Md Belal Hossain, their daughter Lamia Khatun, 2, and Md Saidur, 5, son of Md Main Uddin, residents of the Sentarpara area under Birganj municipality.

All were the tenants of the same house situated in the area.

Warehouse Inspector Md Meraj Ali of Birganj Fire Station said the fire broke out following a blast around 2:00pm when Jahidul was refilling a cooking gas cylinder from a large LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinder used in a car.

Being informed, fire service personnel doused the fire and sent the injured to Birganj Upazila Health Complex, he added.

Dr Md Mukit Sourav of the health complex said as the health condition of Joy and Saidur deteriorated, they were shifted to M Abdur Rahim Medical College and Hospital, Dinajpur for better treatment.

Birganj police station Subrata Kumar Sarkar said they were looking into the incident.
