5 Covid-19 patients killed in United Hospital fire

At least five coronavirus patients have been killed in a fire that broke out in the capital's United Hospital on Wednesday night, fire service officials confirmed.

“We have recovered five bodies,” Kamrul Islam, duty officer of fire service control room, said.

There were four males and one female among the dead and they were admitted to the isolation ward, he said.

The fire broke out at the coronavirus ward around 9:55 pm and was extinguished around 10:25 pm.

Three firefighting units are working at the site.

Kamrul said they initially suspect an Air Conditioner explosion caused the fire.

Police’s Deputy Commissioner of Gulshan Division Sudip Kumar said that there are casualties but they were not sure about the death toll.
