Five passengers including the boatman drowned in a waterbody in Gilabari area of Tangail’s Basail upazila when the boat came into contact with a power line on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as-- Taij Uddin, the boatman, Shah Alam, 25, Hamidur Rahman Rono, 35, his mother Jomela Begum, 60, and another woman aged 32.
The bodies have been recovered, local union parishad member Rubel Mia confirmed The Business Post.
He couldn’t confirm immediately that how many of the passengers are still missing.
A team of divers has been sent to the spot. Details will be informed later, said Basail Fire Service Station Fireman Shafiqul Islam.
