Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-10) jointly seized 317 illegal walkie-talkie wireless sets and 5,244 accessories, worth about TK 5 million.

Five people were arrested during raids at Dhaka’s Saidabad, Manipuripara, Rajarbagh and Shewrapara areas on Saturday and Sunday.

BTRC said in a statement that the detainees had not obtained any license or wave to use the walkie-talkie under Section 55 (7) of Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulation Act, 2001.

In addition, according to Section 57 (3) of the same Act, there is a provision to take no objection from BTRC before importing walkie-talkies. Still, they have violated it by illegally importing and selling walkie-talkies.

According to the guidelines issued by BTRC, the use of black walkie-talkie set by any person/organization other than government organization is strictly prohibited.

In this case, the detainees have illegally sold black walkie-talkie sets in violation of the country's customary law, which threatens the country's overall security. It is to be noted that criminal gangs commit various crimes using illegal walkie-talkie sets, including robbery, snatching, extortion, and fraud.
