At least five houses were gutted in a fire that broke out from an electrical short circuit at Malipara village of Daulatpur Union under Sylhet's Bishwanath Upazila on Friday afternoon.
Locals said there was no electricity till 3:30pm across the upazila thanks to the earthquake in the morning. As soon as the electricity came back at around 4:45pm, a fire broke out from an electric short circuit in one house, which spread to four more houses.
Biswanath Police Station Sub-Inspector Redwan confirmed an electrical short circuit as the source of the blaze. The losses are estimated to be around Tk 50 lakh.
