5 killed as bus collides with three-wheeler in Sylhet

Five people were killed in a collision between a bus and a battery-run auto-rickshaw at Darvaste of Jaintapur Upazila on Sylhet-Tamabil road around 10pm on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Musad Ali, 50, Nur Uddin, 55, Abdul Latif, 50, Kamal Ahmed, 25, and Matin alias Kachai, 45.

According to locals, a Jaflong-bound bus was going from Sylhet and collided with a three-wheeler (locally called Tomtom) in front of the Sylhet-Tamabil Highway Darvaste Palli Bidyut Office around 10pm, leaving five people dead and several others injured on the spot.

All the deceased were tomtom passengers.

Jaintapur and Bateshwar fire service personnel with the help of locals are working to rescue the bus that fell into a ditch.

Meanwhile, a long tailback has been seen on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway after the incident.

Jaintapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Omar Faruk confirmed about the incident and the death number.

Shyamal Banik, media officer of Sylhet district police, said police rushed to the spot and started rescue operation immediately.
