At least 50 shops were gutted in a fire at Pahartali Kacha Bazar in Chattogram city early Sunday.
On information, five fire fighting units from Agrabad Fire stations rushed to the spot, and were able to douse the fire at about 2am with the help of local people, said Abdul Hamid Mia, deputy Assistant Director of Agrabad Fire Service.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit in a shop at about 12:15am and quickly engulfed the adjoining shops in the market, police and fire brigade sources said.
Valuables worth about Tk 50 lakh were burned in the fire, said the fire service officials.
