Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said some 507 establishments have been kept prepared with quarantine facilities so that people with COVID-19 symptoms can be placed there.
The Prime Minister said this during a video conference with the public representatives and officials of eight districts of Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions today (Monday) on the present coronavirus situation in the country from her official residence Ganobhaban.
She said “Like many other countries in the world, Bangladesh is also experiencing the effects of the deadly virus. We all need to remain safe during this period. But there are some people who do not like the idea of staying safe which is increasing the rate of infections in the country.”
She said: “The whole world is now experiencing the fright of the virus as none of the countries ever experienced such a situation before.”
“The month of April will be a tough one for us. We all should remain careful. Infection rate is lower in our country compared to those in Europe and America. The number of deaths in the country is lower than the number Bangladesh origin COVID-19 patients dying in the UK and USA” she added.
The premier instructed producing and stocking foodgrains in the country noting that the world might face famine in the coming days as coronavirus will create a shortage of food.
"There will be a food recession due to coronavirus. In the future, there might be a global famine," she said.
Sheikh Hasina put emphasis on producing and preserving food to face the possible food crisis in the post-coronavirus regime.
"If we can produce foods and preserve those then we won’t fall into that famine, rather we will be able to help many others. We’ve to take those steps from now," she said.
She said that land of the country is fertile and the people are laborious while Bangladesh currently is a food sufficient country.
Earlier, the prime minister exchanged views with the public representatives and officials of 43 districts of Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Sylhet and Barishal divisions in four phases.
