A damaged bridge in Sirajganj has caused a 50km tailback on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway since early Thursday.
The tailback has caused thousands of vehicles to be stranded on the highway, causing immense suffering to homebound people and traders.
Sirajganj Traffic Inspector Salekuzzaman Salek confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
"Damage to the old Nolka Bridge in Sirajganj has caused the traffic congestion," he said.
Highway police estimate around 20,000 vehicles are stuck on both sides and the tailback is been spreading to other highways.
