Fifty-seven lakh more doses of the Sinopharm vaccine are scheduled to reach Dhaka from China early Saturday.

Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka Hualong Yan confirmed the matter in a Facebook status on Friday evening.

The vaccine doses are part of the commercial purchase from China, he said.

"As Strategic Partner of Bangladesh, China will always remain the most reliable supplier whatever and whenever our Bangladeshi friend needs," he added.

Before Saturday's consignment, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying 55,93,650 doses of the vaccine landed at Shahjalal International Airport around 2:10am on August 31.

Earlier Friday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said Bangladesh would get two crore doses of Sinopharm vaccines from China each month. Which means six crore jabs of Sinopharm will arrive in the country within three months.

Health ministry sources said the government is planning to vaccinate 1.5 to 2 crore people from the next month.
