The Rapid Action Battalion on Friday rescued 54 Rohingyas, including women and children, from Teknaf coast in Cox’s Bazar while they were being trafficked to Malaysia.

The battalion members also detained three people, including two suspected traffickers, at Shamlapur of Baharchhara, confirmed Tanvir Hasan, deputy commander of RAB-15.

Acting on a tip-off, the RAB personnel conducted a drive in the Shamlapur area and rescued the Rohingya people, he said.

A trawler was also seized during the raid, the RAB official added.

Earlier on March 21, police rescued 148 Rohingyas — most of them women and children — from Sonadia island in Moheshkhali upazila.
