As many as 57 per cent apparel workers who sustained injuries and survived the deadliest Rana Plaza collapse have remained unemployed amid the Covid-19 pandemic, finds a study.
A survey titled COVID-19: Challenges for the Rana Plaza Tragedy Survivors conducted by ActionAid Bangladesh revealed the findings through a virtual dialogue on Thursday.
The survey was conducted over phone on 200 of the survivors, of which 63 per cent were female workers.
The survey found 92 per cent of the survivors did not receive any support from the government to face the crisis caused by the ongoing pandemic.
However, some of the survivors reported that they had received food, health and hygiene material support from several local groups and individuals.
Eight years ago, on April 24 in 2013, the Rana Plaza, which housed eight apparel factories, located in Savar collapsed leaving at least 1,135 workers dead and over 2,500 injured.
