6 killed in Rangpur road accident

At least six people were killed and 50 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses on Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur on Sunday morning.

Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The accident took place in Baldipukur Bus Stand area around 7:15am when a Rangpur-bound bus of Selfie Paribahan from Dhaka collided with a bus of Joana Paribahan, coming from the opposite direction, Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director AKM Shamsuzzoha told The Business Post.

Five people, including the driver of Selfie Paribahan, died on the spot, he said, adding that another succumbed to injuries on way to a local hospital.

The injured were taken to Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex and Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.

Ten of the wounded were in critical condition, the fire service official said.
