6 killed in road accidents

At least six people have been killed in road accidents in Dhaka and Jamalpur districts on Monday.

According to sources, three autorickshaw passengers died when a pickup hit their vehicle at Mrirdhakanda in under Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka.

The deceased were identified as Moina Begum, 50, Rahela Begum, 40, Sufia, 30, and Mala Begum, 46, residents of Gungerpar area of Nayanshree union of Nawabganj.

The CNG-run autorickshaw was going from Bandura to Dohar. At around 8:00am a sand-carrying pick up van collided head-on with the autorickshaw and caused the casualties, confirmed Nawabjganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Sirajul Islam.

A case has been filed in this regard; the OC added.

Meanwhile, a man and his wife were killed as a truck ploughed through their roadside house at Garohori village in Dewanganj upazila early Monday.

The deceased are Joynal Abedin, 48 a farmer, and his wife Hasina Begum, 40, reports UNB.

The Rowmari-bound fertilizer-laden truck skidded off the road and ploughed through the roadside house after its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the couple, who were asleep, dead on the spot, said Dewanganj Police Station Officer-in-charge Mohabbat Kabir.

However, the driver managed to flee the scene, the OC added.
