Two aircrafts of Bangladesh Air Force carrying a batch of six lakh Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine doses from China landed in Dhaka around 5:30pm on Sunday.

This is the second consignment of coronavirus vaccine China gifted to Bangladesh.

The BAF aircrafts earlier left Dhaka for China on Saturday night and reached there early Sunday.

As of Sunday 8:00am, Bangladesh recorded 47 Covid-19 deaths in a span of 24-hours, the highest fatalities in five weeks. The caseloads rose to 8,26,922 with 2,436 new infections.

Earlier, on May 12, the Chinese government donated half a million of Sinopharm vaccine doses to Bangladesh.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020, China and Bangladesh have been assisting each other in their fight against the Covid-19.

China has donated and is donating vaccine doses to 80 developing countries with urgent needs, and has provided support under COVAX for the emergency use of vaccines in developing countries.

China says it will continue to make joint efforts with Bangladesh to make positive contributions to Bangladesh's endeavour of protecting human lives and fight to win the battle against the pandemic, and together to build an even closer community of shared future and health for mankind.
