6 members of fake MBBS certificate ring arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested six members of a counterfeit MBBS certificate ring from Dhaka’s Malibagh area on Wednesday.

“The ring used to sell fake MBBS certificates through a website name Premier University of Technology which is a fake and non-existent institution,” Additional Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter told the journalists during a press briefing held at DMP’s media centre on Thursday.

“They advertised through fake websites, newspapers and social media to lure aspirant doctors who wanted to get the MBBS certificate by any means,” he added.

The arrestees are - Nurul Haque Sarkar alias Sheikh Goni, Moazzem Hossain, Debasis Kundu, Saidur Rahman, Mahfuzur Rahman and Aman Ullah.

According to police, Nurul Haque Sarkar alias Sheikh Goni was the leader of the ring. He embezzled a huge amount of money by selling many fake certificates on MBBS, BDS, MPhil, PHD, engineering and advocateship.

The arrestees used to introduce themselves as MBBS doctors while Sheikh Goni was introduced as vice-chancellor of Premier University of Technology and a former student of Pitch Blende University of Science and Technology (PUST).

Detective Branch of DMP also seized several counterfeit certificates, testimonials, transcripts, and bank cheques from their possession.
