The 60 per cent work of Dhaka airport's third terminal has been completed, said State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali on Tuesday.

Currently, the interior decoration and installation work of different machinery is going on and the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) will be opened in October this year, he told reporters after visiting the passenger services at the No 1 and 2 terminals of the airport and the construction work of the ongoing third terminal.

A number of development work, including strengthening work of runways, modernisation of security system, and construction of new terminal buildings are going on at all airports to ensure better passenger services and safe movement of flights, he said.

Besides, the ministry and the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh are monitoring regularly so that passengers do not get harassed at the airports, he said.

Replying to a question, he said the take-off and landing flights at the Dhaka airport will remain suspended for five hours daily due to the ongoing development work of Instrumental Landing System (ILS) of the runway and once it is upgraded from category 2 to category 1 the limitations of flight operation amid fog will be over.
