Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials seized a large consignment of illegally imported alcohol from a ship in the Chattogram port area on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the CIID conducted a drive on the ship named MV MCL6, which arrived from Yangon, Myanmar on Sunday, and seized 61 bottles of foreign liquor.
CIID sources said that Multiport Shipping Ltd, Agrabad, Chattogram was the agency responsible for the consignment, and had declared the ship to be carrying corn.
The seized liquor would be deposited at the Chattogram Customs House, and measures will be taken against those involved in the incident as per The Customs Act, 1969, CIID sources said.
