As many as 66 patients died at the Covid-19 units of hospitals in four districts in the last 24 hours until Wednesday morning.
In Rajshahi, 20 people, including seven women, died at the Covid unit of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital in a 24-hour period.
Two of the deceased tested positive for Covid-19 while others died with Covid-like-symptoms, said RMCH Director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani.
Among the deceased, seven were from Rajshahi, four from Pabna, three from Naogaon, two each from Chapainawabganj and Natore, and one each from Kushtia and Meherpur.
With 66 new admissions, a total of 470 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital against 454 beds, he added.
Some 67 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.
In Khulna, 22 more people died at the Covid units in four hospitals.
Of them, 10 died at Dedicated Corona Hospital, five each at Khulna General Hospital and Gazi Medical College and Hospital, and two at Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital.
In Mymensingh, seven people died at the Covid unit at Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital in the past 24 hours.
Three of the deceased tested positive for Covid-19 while four others suffered from its symptoms, said Dr Mohiuddin Khan Moon, spokesperson of the unit.
As many as 341 patients are undergoing treatment at the unit until Wednesday morning, he said.
In Kushtia, Kushtia General Hospital reported 17 more Covid-related deaths in 24 hours amid an alarming surge in the number of new infections in the district, reports UNB.
Of the deceased, 10 were confirmed Covid patients while the remaining seven showed symptoms of the virus, said Dr MA Momen, administrator of the hospital.
Besides, 234 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the district over the past 24 hours. "A total of 801 samples were tested during the period," he said.
The positivity rate currently stands at 29.21%, which was 30.30% a day before.
Moreover, a total of 277 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital with Covid symptoms.
