69 more die of Covid, cases 1,359

Bangladesh witnessed a fall in its daily Covid-19 infection tally for two days in a row as 1,359 people tested positive for the virus in the 24 hours till 8:00 am on Sunday taking the caseloads to 761,943, according to a release issued by the Director General of Health Services.

However, 69 patients died of the virus in the 24 hours taking the tally of fatalities to 11,579.

The death rate now stands at 1.52 and positivity rate at 9.60, said the DGHS.

The tally of recoveries rose to 687,328 pushing the rate of recoveries to 90.21 per cent after 2,657 patients got cured from the diseases in the 24 hours.

Bangladesh registered 1,452 positive cases on Saturday, May 1, which was lowest since March 14 when 1,159 cases were reported, according to data provided by the directorate.

The country is currently under a nationwide lockdown to curb risks of a second wave of the virus pandemic.
