7 killed in Narsingdi road crash

At least seven people were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi in the early hours of Friday.

The accident took place at Itakhola on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway around 2am. All the victims were employees of SB Knitting Ltd located in the EPZ area of Dhaka's Savar.

The deceased were Sabuj, 32, of Delduar upazila, and Al Amin Khan, 27, of Mirzapur upazila in Tangail, Abdul Awal, 40, of Kalkini upazila in Madaripur, Arian Raihan, 25, of Muladi upazila in Barisal, Raju, 37, of Sharishabari upazila in Jamalpur, Al Amin, 27, of Rajapur upazila in Jhalakathi, and microbus driver Nasir Uddin.

Itakhola highway police outpost in-charge Inspector Md Kabir Hossain said the microbus was heading towards Sylhet from Savar and collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction in the Ghashirdia area, leaving five people dead on the spot.

Critically injured six others were taken to Narsingdi General Hospital, where two of them succumbed to their injuries, he said, adding that four injured were later shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment.

Overspeeding by the microbus driver might have led to the accident, Inspector Kabir said. The truck driver was apprehended, he added.

The bodies were kept at the Narsingdi General Hospital morgue.

SB Knitting Ltd Manager (Admin) Mir Shihab Uddin said 10 of their employees were going to Sylhet for a trip and six of them along with the microbus driver died in the accident.
