A seven-year-old child died from coronavirus at a government hospital in the capital.

The girl was undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital for Covid-19 symptoms and died on Friday night.

Dr Shihab Uddin, the coordinator of the hospital, confirmed the matter to The Business Post, adding that the child’s body was handed over on Saturday morning for burial.

“The health condition of the child was very poor. She had kidney problems since childhood and the organ was failing to produce urine. Those with such comorbidities are suffering the most,” he said.

Infant mortality rate due to novel coronavirus infection is said to be quite low. Prior to this, a six-year-old boy died of Covid-19 on April 13. He was from Patiya of Chattogram.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of the coronavirus on March 8. So far, 4,689 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the country with a death toll of 131 as of Friday, according to government data.
