As many as 75 patients died at the Covid-19 units of hospitals in five districts in the last 24 hours until Tuesday morning.
In Rajshahi, 19 people, including six women, died at the Covid unit of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital in the past 24 hours.
Four of the deceased tested positive for Covid-19 while others died with Covid-like-symptoms, said RMCH Director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani.
Among the deceased, 10 were from Rajshahi, two each from Naogaon and Natore, and one each from Chapainawabganj, Kushtia, Pabna, Chuadanga, and Joypurhat.
With 76 new cases, a total of 489 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital against 454 beds, he added.
In Bogura, 19 more patients died of the deadly virus in three hospitals in a 24-hour period.
Of them, 12 died at 250-bed Mohammad Ali Hospital, five at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital, and two at TMSS Medical College and Hospital.
In Khulna, 17 more people died at the Covid units in three hospitals.
Of the deceased, 13 contracted the virus and four others exhibited the symptoms.
Eight patients died at Khulna Medical College and Hospital, five at Khulna General Hospital, and four at Gazi Medical College and Hospital.
In Mymensingh, seven people died at the Covid unit at Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital in the past 24 hours.
Three of the deceased tested positive for Covid-19 while four others suffered from its symptoms, said Dr Mohiuddin Khan Moon, spokesperson of the unit.
As many as 300 patients are undergoing treatment at the unit until Tuesday morning, he said.
In Kushtia, Kushtia General Hospital reported 13 more Covid-related deaths in 24 hours amid an alarming surge in the number of new infections in the district, reports UNB.
Of the deceased, 11 were confirmed Covid patients while the remaining two showed symptoms of the virus, said Dr MA Momen, administrator of the hospital.
Besides, 292 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the district over the past 24 hours. "A total of 885 samples were tested during the period," he said.
The positivity rate currently stands at 30.30 per cent.
