Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on Wednesday arrested eight Bangladesh passengers from Kolkata bound Maitri Express with 55 gold bars worth Tk 4.5 crores.
The detained are - Sohel Rana, 47, Billal Bepari, 52, Tajbir Ahmed, 38, Nazmul Hasan, 30, Shah Alom, 40, Nadim, 41, Sultan, 26, and Sumon, 36, read a press release.
On information, around 6:30am a patrol team of the Directorate of Investigation conducted a search operation in the Maitri Express train. During the operation, 55 pieces of gold bars worth Tk 4.5 crores were seized.
A case will be filed under the Customs Act and the Special Powers Act soon.
