The government has proposed to bring eight lakh more poor elderly citizens under the ‘old-age allowance’ in the next FY21-22 budget.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed a proposed budget of Tk 6,03,681 crore for the fiscal year 2021-22 in parliament on Thursday.
The allowance programme currently covers around 49 lakh senior individuals of the high and extremely high poverty groups from 112 upazilas.
Elderly people of 150 more upazilas have been included in the proposed budget.
The government on Thursday proposed a Tk 481 crore additional budget for this old-age allowance programme, whereas, the allocation for this purpose in FY21 was Tk 2,940 crore.
