The government on Sunday announced the names of nine personalities and one organisation for this year’s ‘Swadhinata Padak’ (Independence Award) in recognition of their glorious and remarkable contributions to national level.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification in this regard on Sunday.
The recipients of the country’s highest state honour in Liberation War and Independence category are--Late AKM Bazlur Rahman, Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master, Late martyred intellectual Brigadier general Khushid Uddin Ahmed and Late Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu.
Poet Mahadeb Shaha will receive the award in Literature while Dr Mrinmay Goho Niyogi in Science and Technology, Professor Dr M Amzad Hossain in Social Service, Ataur Rahman and Gazi Mazharul Anwar in Culture.
Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) will get the award as an organization.
Since 1977, Bangladesh has honoured individuals and institutions with the award every year ahead of Independence Day on Mar 26.
