95.26% pass HSC, equivalent exams

A total of 95.26 per cent students have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday published the results of HSC and equivalent examinations 2021 at International Mother Language Institute virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence.

On behalf of the prime minister, Education Minister Dipu Moni received the results of the HSC and equivalent exams 2021 and related statistics from the chairmen of all the education boards.

Among the examinees, 95.57 per cent passed the HSC examinations, 95.48 per cent came out successful in Madrasah Board while 92.85 per cent in Technical Board.

A total of 1,89,169 students secured the highest-grade GPA 5 against 1,61,807 last year.

Among the successful students, 1,78,522 achieved the highest-grade GPA 5 under nine general education boards while 4,872 under the Madrasha Education Board and 5,775 under the Technical and Vocational Education Board.

Dhaka Board saw the highest number of GPA-5 -- 59,233.

A total of 14,03,244 candidates took part in the HSC and equivalent exams from 9,183 educational institutions under 11 education boards in the country.

Among the general education boards, Jashore recorded the highest pass rate – 98.11 per cent while Cumilla had a success rate of 97.49 per cent, Rajshahi 97.29 per cent, Dhaka 96.20 per cent, Barishal 95.76 per cent, Mymensingh 95.71 per cent, Sylhet 94.80 per cent, Dinajpur 92.43 per cent and Chattogram 89.39 per cent.

The HSC and equivalent exams were held on December 2-30 last with shortened syllabi.

But the exams for 2020 could not be held due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the results were prepared based on the candidates’ performances in previous public examinations.

At the function, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury delivered the welcome speech, while Secondary and Higher Education Secretary Abu Bakr Siddique and Technical and Madarash education Secretary Aminul Islam Khan presented data and statistics over the HSC and equivalent exams and candidates. Examinees, however, did not sit for tests in compulsory subjects like Bangla and English.
