Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday filed a case against six individuals, including Additional Chief Engineer (Production) of Shikalbaha Power Plant in Chattogram, over allegations of showing inflated price in buying an electric pump for the power plant.
By manipulating the price of the electric pump – as much as twelve times the real price – the accused persons embezzled around Taka 2.60 lakh, said ACC.
Assistant Director of ACC Mamunur Rashid filed the case at the commission’s Integrated District Office Chattogram-2.
ACC Director Public Relations Pranab Kumar Bhattachariya confirmed the development to The Business Post.
The accused are Abdul Alim, owner of M/S Powertech International; Engineer Bhuvan Bijoy Dutta, Additional Chief Engineer of 150 Megawatts Shikalbaha Peaking Power Plant; AHM Kamal, Chief Engineer (Production) of Northern Electricity Supply Company; Tofazzal Hossen, Additional Chief Engineer of Directorate-1 of Design and Inspection; Abu Yousuf, Additional Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Power Development Board and Mizanur Rahman, Executive Engineer of Shikalbaha Power Plant.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), “The accused inflated the price of an electric pump to embezzle money in 2016. They opened an LC of Taka 2.95 crore but ACC investigation found the price of the pump as much as Taka 2.49 lakh.
In another development, ACC served notices to officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority and Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company to submit their wealth information within 21 working days.
A letter signed by ACC Director Md Akhter Hossen issued the notices in separate letters to the officials.
Notices were served to Md Saidur Rahman, Additional Chief Engineer (Dredging division) Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority; Shamima Akhter, wife of Md Saidur Rahman and Md. Shahidul Islam, former manager of Titas Gas of Sonargaon, Narayanganj.
The notice asked them to submit wealth information of them and their dependents, including moveable and immovable assets, income source and any liabilities to the ACC by the stipulated time.
Moreover, if they fail to submit the information within the time frame or give misinformation, ACC will take legal action against them inline with the law.
