ACC grills officials of JMI, Toma over PPE graft

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday (July 8) interrogated JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing Ltd chairman and Toma Construction & Co Ltd coordinator over allegations of corruption in purchasing masks and personal protective equipment (PPE).

The two officials are JMI Hospital's chairman Abdur Razzak and Toma's coordinator (medical team) Md Motiur Rahman.  

A team of ACC led by its Director Mir Mohammad Joynul Abedin Shibly interrogated the duo officials at the commission's headquarters in the capital, said ACC public relation officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee. Earlier, the ACC summoned the two to appear at the commission head office on July 8.

On July 1, the anti-graft body also summoned Elan Corporation Ltd Chairman Aminul Islam Amin, Meditech Imaging Ltd Director Md Humayun Kabir and Dhaka Central International Medical College and Hospital Chairman, also owner of Lexicon Merchandise and Technocrat Ltd, Md Motazzerul Islam Mithu for interrogation.

Of them, Abdur Razzak, Motiur Rahman and Aminul Islam Amin were asked to appear at ACC head office on July 8 while Humayun Kabir and Motazzerul Islam Mithu on July 9.

ACC has formed a four-member probe committee to investigate allegations of corruption in the purchase of N-95 masks and PPE.
