ACC seeks information on Shahed from 9 govt, private entities

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday (July 14) sent letters to nine government and private entities seeking documents on Regent Hospital owner Md Shahed as part of an investigation.

The nine organisations are Bangladesh Bank’s Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), Directorate General of Health Services, National Board of Revenue, Dhaka North City Corporation, Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, Uttara Paschim Thana, United Commercial Bank; Uttara branch, Dhaka Mercantile Cooperative Bank; Airport branch and National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine.

ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattachariya confirmed the development to The Business Post.

ACC, on July 13, formed a 3-member inquiry team led by Deputy Director Abu Bakar Siddique to start an inquiry against Shahed. Other two members of the team are Assistant Directors Md Neyamul Hasan Gazi and Sheikh Md Golam Mawla.

“There are allegations Shahed made some quick bucks through multi-level marketing (MLM) and credit card fraudulence. He also conned people, evaded income tax, used fake ID cards for embezzling money from bank," ACC said.

ACC is also collecting information on Shahed through various other sources.
