ACC sues Dr Yunus, 12 others for embezzling Tk25.22cr

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday filed a case against 13 people including Grameen Telecom Chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus on charges of embezzling Tk25.22 crore from the workers' profit participation fund (WPPF).

ACC Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar Prodhan filed the case with its integrated district office in Dhaka-1, confirmed ACC Secretary (acting) Rezwanur Rahman.

The others accused are Grameen Telecom Managing Director Nazmul Islam, Directors Ashraful Hasan, Parveen Mahmud, Nazeen Sultana, MD Shajahan, Nurjahan Begum, SM Hazatul Islam Latifi, lawyers of the workers’ union of Grameen Telecom Md Yousuf Ali and Zafrul Hasan Sharif, and Grameen Telecom workers and employees union president Md Kamruzzman, General Secretary Firoz Mahmud Hasan, and union’s representative Mainul Islam.

Earlier, on July 28, last year, the commission initiated an inquiry against the members of the board of directors of Grameen Telecom over the allegation.

ACC had initiated the inquiry following an allegation submitted by the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments in this regard.
