ACC sues Pradip, wife over illegal wealth

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday filed a case against the former officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf police station Pradip Kumar Das and his wife Chumki on charges of amassing wealth illegally.

The combined district office of Chattogram filed the case, Pranab Kumar Bhattachariya, director of Public Relations of the ACC confirmed The Business Post.

Assistant director of the ACC Riaz Uddin filed the case against OC Pradip and his wife on the allegations of acquiring properties worth 3 crore and 95 lakh taka by illegal means.

The ACC investigation team has also revealed to have found that ex-OC Pradip Kumar Das bought properties with money earned by illegal ways and kept those assets under his wife's name.

Earlier, on condition of anonymity, an ACC official with the knowledge of the investigation told The Business Post that the ACC launched an investigation in 2018 against Pradip's alleged possession of illegal wealth and Pradip declared property worth 70 lakh against himself.

Pradip showed more wealth against his wife and also identified her as a fish trader. In the 2017-18 fiscal year, nearly 4 crore taka worth property was shown against her, the documents found.

The ACC found property worth 15 lakh to 20 lakh taka in its own investigation and a total of about 3 crore taka.
