The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, his wife Zeeshan Mirza, and their daughters Farheen Rishta Binte Benazir and Tahsin Raisa Binte Benazir for questioning on separate dates.

Confirming the matter on condition of anonymity, an ACC source say, “The commission, in a notice, asked Benazir Ahmed to visit the ACC headquarters on June 6 and explain the allegations of corruption against him.

“In another notice, the ACC summoned Benazir’s wife Zeeshan Mirza and two daughters on June 9 for the same reason.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday noon, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) ordered to freeze of the beneficiary owner’s (BO) accounts of Benazir and his immediate family members.

Following the stock market regulator’s order, Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) suspended the BO accounts of Benazir, his wife Zeeshan Mirza, eldest daughter Farheen Rishta Binte Benazir, and younger daughter Tahsin Raisa Binte Benazir.

A senior BSEC official, requesting anonymity, said, “We have frozen their BO accounts following a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).”

CDBL usually facilitates the transfer and settlement of shares and other securities against BO accounts.

A Dhaka court last week ordered the confiscation of different properties, including flats, plots, and company shares in the names of Benazir, his wife and their daughters Farheen and Tahsin.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge As-Sams Jaglul Hossain passed the order following an appeal by ACC Deputy Director Hafizul Islam, said Mahmud.

On May 23, all bank accounts of Benazir were frozen, and his 83 properties in Gopalganj and Cox's Bazar were confiscated.

On March 31, a vernacular daily published a report under the title, “Aladiner Cherag at the house of Benazir.” After that, a writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking an investigation into the allegation brought against the former IGP and his family.

Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon, who is also a member of parliament, also filed a petition with ACC seeking legal steps against Benazir.
