Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmud on Thursday said that the anti-graft watchdog will look into the source of wealth of landlords if they attempt to evict healthcare professionals from their homes during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“ACC will investigate the source of wealth of landlords…law will take its own course if any illegal source of income of the landlords is found,” Iqbal Mahmud was quoted as saying according to a press release issued by the anti-graft watchdog.
“Doctors, nurses, ward boys and other healthcare professionals are providing healthcare services to the people in this crisis period. To me, it is a crime to dishonour them.”
“To my knowledge, this kind of behaviour is a punishable offence as per the Communicable Diseases (Prevention, Control and Eradication) Act-2018,” he said.
According to media reports, landlords in Dhaka and elsewhere are allegedly barring healthcare professionals, who are playing frontline roles in the fight against coronavirus, from entering their homes.
Many were even served notices to leave their houses, said the reports.
