Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Adviser to the interim government Nahid Islam on Sunday said an investigation will be conducted to find out the reason behind internet shutdown amid quota reform movement.
Besides, action will be taken against those involved in the internet shutdown, he added while speaking to the media on Sunday.
Adviser Nahid then pointed out, “Access to the internet is a human right. So the shutdown was a human rights issue. Keeping this in mind, access to the internet should be protected. So that no one's human rights are violated, and there is free flow of information.
“Internet should not be shut down. Work will be done to create a youth-oriented ICT sector. Any kind of corruption will not be tolerated.”
He further said that the motto of this movement was to build a merit-based Bangladesh. That is why those who are working in the administration will also be tried to get opportunities based on merit. Zero tolerance policy against corruption must be maintained.
The ICT adviser added, “There are great job opportunities for youth in the ICT sector. There are also a large number of such young people in the country. We now need to connect with them. A connection will be made with those who are experienced.
“Because the young generation of Bangladesh is capable for leading the information technology revolution, we just need to give them the opportunity.”
On August 5, Sheikh Hasina left the country after resigning from the post of prime minister in the face of an unprecedented popular uprising by students. Then on August 8, an interim government – led by Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus – took oath.
