The much-awaited Dhaka Elevated Expressway will be partially opened to traffic in September this year.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Airport-Farmgate section of the under-construction expressway, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told reporters after visiting the project site on Saturday.

This partial opening will help reduce traffic pressure in the capital significantly, he hoped.

The nearly 20km elevated expressway project – stretching from Kawla to Kutubkhali on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway – is being implemented in three phases under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

This project is costing Tk 8,940 crore, and the government is providing Tk 2,413 crore, Quader said, adding that the overall project progress currently stands at 63.20 per cent.
