The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department has detained a security guard of the Civil Aviation Authority along with 80 gold bars at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.

AKM Sultan, deputy director of the Customs and Intelligence Department, said the security guard, identified as Belal Uddin, 40, was detained inside the airport around 9:00am on Saturday.

"We initially found out that Belal had collected the gold bars from the airport toilet, and the gold bars were wrapped in packets.

The consignment arrived on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight – BG-148 – from Dubai at around 8:00am, said Shah Amanat International Airport Manager Wing Commander Farhad Hossain Khan.

“The weight of 80 pieces of gold bar is 9.27 kilogrammes, worth around Tk 5.35 crore,” he added.
