Awami League-backed 14-party alliance mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque on Tuesday announced his 40-point manifesto for the upcoming Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election.
He made the announcement at a press conference at Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser banquet hall of Khulna Press Club.
Aiming for establishing green, clean, smart, digital and planned city, Election Publicity Committee of Khulna City Unit of AL organized the conference.
The manifesto contains many key needs of the city dwellers including the development of water and sewerage system to make the city free from water logging, the development and expansion of the city, industrialisation, establishment of green, clean and environment friendly city, health facilities, cultural centers at every ward, action against drug abuse, modernisation of garbage management system and kitchen markets.
Besides, increasing public service without enhancing holding tax, preservation of Liberation War Monument, water reservoirs and ponds, developing graveyards, cremation centers, communication and traffic management, enhancing and flourishing cultural activities, setting up of adequate electric light and developing service of Telecommunication, Railway, Electricity, KDA and WASA through coordination were also placed in the manifesto.
It includes initiatives for formulating advisory committee for taking plan for city development, creating new employment and income source, setting up of modern city center, construction of new park and forestry, development of education system, helping elderly and disabled people, women empowerment, maintaining communal harmony, construction of modern slaughtering house, ensuring accountability, fairness and corruption free KCC.
Replying to a series of questions of the journalists, creation of job opportunities, establishing of green, Clean, smart, digital and water logging free city issues will get priority during his next mayoral term, Khaleque added.
“Various development works are being implemented as part of KCC's Taka 1500-crore in two projects titled ‘Development of Many Important City Roads,’ and ‘Development to Remove Water Logging Problem of Khulna City,’ he said, adding that many of those have become visible which are being acclaimed by the people of both home and abroad.
Organising secretary of central AL SM Kamal Hossain, Central Executive Member Parveen Zaman Kalpona, organizing secretary of Khulna divisional unit of AL BM Mozammel Haque, President of district unit of AL and Chairman of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh-Harun-ur-Rashid, Convenor of KCC Election Conducted Committee of AL mayor candidate and president of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kazi Aminul Haque, general secretary of city unit AL MDA Babul Rana, General secretary of district unit AL advocate Sujit Kumar Adhikary and ex-parliament member Mizanur Rahman Mizan and chairman of National Women Association Runu Reza, were present.
