AL holds meeting with OIC, Commonwealth teams

The ruling Awami League on Friday held a meeting with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) election observer team over the 12th Parliamentary election scheduled for January 7.

The meeting was held at the Dhaka District Awami League office at Tejgao, Dhaka in the morning, reports BSS.

Assistant Secretary-general for Political Affairs Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Dobeay led the three-member OIC election observer team at the meeting while AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader led the AL delegation.

Deputy Minister for Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Naofel, AL Office Secretary Biplob Barua, Information and Research Affairs Secretary Dr Selim Mahmood, Financial Affairs Secretary Wasiqa Ayesha Khan, central committee member Mohammad A Arafat and chief coordinator of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, among others, were present at the meeting.

Earlier in the day, the ruling party also held a meeting with the Commonwealth election observer team at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel in the city.

Former Jamaican prime minister Orette Bruce Golding led the 15-member Commonwealth team while Quader led the AL delegation.

Welcoming the Commonwealth observer team, the AL delegation reiterated its commitment to making the January 7 election free, fair and acceptable.

Awami League International Affairs Sub-Committee Chairman and former ambassador Mohammad Jamir, Prime Minister's Special Envoy on Environment and Climate Change Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Biplob Barua, Selim Mahmood, Wasika Ayesha Khan, Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury and Mohammad A Arafat, among others, were present at the meeting.
