Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif left the country for Canada at around 4 am on Friday (June 20).
Hanif's personal assistant Tariqul Islam Tutul confirmed the matter to The Business Post and said, Hanif has gone to Canada to see his sick elder brother and will return soon.
According to Awami League sources, the joint general secretary of Awami League informed the matter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the party's general secretary Obaidul Quader.
Hanif, a Member of Parliament from Kushtia-3 constituency, has a wife and two children living permanently in Canada.
