National Award-winning composer, violinist, musician, lyricist and music director Alauddin Ali passed away at 5:50 pm on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Universal Medical College Hospital in the capital's Mohakhali area.

Alauddin Ali's daughter Alif Alauddin and his close friend Momin Biswas confirmed the news of his death to The Business Post.

He is survived by his only daughter Alif Alauddin, also a contemporary musician.

Alauddin Ali was born on 24 December 1952 in an aristocratic cultural family in Banshbari village of Munshiganj's Tongibari upazilla. His father's name is Jabed Ali and mother's name is Johra Khatun.

Learning music from father Ustad Jabed Ali and uncle Sadeq Ali, Alauddin Ali entered the film industry as an instrumental artist in 1968 and joined as an associate of Altaf Mahmud. He then worked as an associate of various composers including renowned composer Anwar Parvez.

Alauddin Ali won the National Film Award seven times as a music director and once as a lyricist. He also directed music for the film Padma Nadir Majhi directed by renowned director Gautam Ghosh.
