A fire alert has been issued in all airports nationwide, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), as the country is experiencing a string of fire incidents.

Dhaka Custom House Commissioner AKM Narul Huda Azad on Sunday wrote a letter to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) to take precautionary measures to protect all airports of the country including HSIA from fire hazards.

As per the letter, Cargo Village (import-export) warehouses under all airports of the country store life-saving medicines, state-important products, industrial raw materials, and various chemicals. They can catch fire at any time and cause major damage.

Therefore, CAAB has been instructed to keep the warehouses under its jurisdiction.

In the letter, Commissioner Narul Huda also highlighted that the risk of fire in Dhaka's customs and air houses is very high, which also puts government revenue at risk. Consequently, the firefighting system needs to be strengthened for the sake of the cargo complex, cargo village, and the area's overall security.

CAAB (fire department) Assistant Director Rafiqul Islam said that all airports across the country have been asked to take precautions. Apart from this, CAAB has given instructions to prevent mishaps at airports outside of Dhaka.
