A research revealed that around 45% of Dhaka’s population may have been positive for Covid-19. This finding was based on antibody tests conducted till the month of July.
The research also showed that around three fourth of the population in the slums have been infected with coronavirus. Almost half of them were asymptotical cases.
On the other hand, more than 24 % of the infected population belonged to the above 60 age group.
The research was conducted jointly by Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) and International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b).USAID and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funded the research.
Earlier this month, World Bank published a report titled "Beaten or Broken? Informality and Covid-19", warning one in every 10 people in Dhaka might have already been infected with Covid-19, adding that the coronavirus pandemic is not likely to pass anytime soon.
Bangladesh’s coronavirus caseload stood at 379,738 on Monday with the detection of 1,472 new cases in 24 hours until morning.
Health authorities also announced 31 more deaths during the period, taking total fatalities to 5,555.
With 1,531 patients recovering during this period, the total recoveries from coronavirus shop up to 294,391.
The fatality rate in Bangladesh is 1.46 percent, said a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
