Bangladesh is in turmoil as widespread violence and destruction grips all corners of the country amid the non-cooperation movement, organised by the students’ platform Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon seeking change in the government.

Throughout Sunday, protesters clashed with leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organisations, and the law enforcement personnel all over the country.

In Dhaka, protestors took the bodies of four people – who had died during Sunday’s clashes – from the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Around 6pm, they took the bodies of four people to the central Shaheed Minar. At that time, they were chanting various slogans. On their way to Shahbagh from there, they were stopped by the police in front of the Raju sculpture of Dhaka University.

Defying police, the protesters marched towards Shahbagh with the dead body of one person. They also began hurling bricks at Shahbagh police station. The police started firing guns, tear shells and sound grenades around 6:30pm.

As part of the movement, students started gathering at various key points in the capital from Sunday morning. Violent clashes erupted soon after. At least 71 people have been killed in the violence across the country.
