Another 51 Covid deaths, 1,862 cases reported in 24hrs

Bangladesh reported 51 new coronavirus-related deaths and 1,862 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the positivity rate dropped to 5.98 per cent during this period — below 6 per cent after more than six months. 

The overall caseload now stands at 15,38,203 and the total fatalities at 27,109, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 31,149 samples at 808 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 93,63,609 samples.

Meanwhile, 3,549 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,94,090.

Among the fresh fatalities, 25 were males and 26 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 29 fatalities, followed by eight in Chattogram, six in Khulna, four in Rajshahi, three in Barishal, and one in Rangpur. Mymensingh and Sylhet reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 227,373,894 and the death toll to 4,675,976 till Thursday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
