Another accused in a murder case of a trader in Dhaka's Pallabi was killed in a reported gunfight with members of the Detective Branch of police.
The deceased was identified as Monir.
The incident took place in front of Sagupta Housing in Sector 12, Pallabi on Saturday during a raid by police to arrest him.
It happened two days after Manik, also an accused in the case filed over the murder of trader Shahinuddin, was killed in another reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Saiful Islam, additional deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch (Mirpur division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the matter on Sunday.
He said Monir was seriously injured in the gunfight and was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Two policemen were injured in the incident, he added.
On May 16, 34-year-old Shahinuddin was hacked to death in front of his six-year-old son Mashrafe at Road 32 of Pallabi section 12.
Aklima Begum, the mother of the deceased, filed a murder case with Pallabi police station accusing 20 people, with former MP of Laxmipur-1 MA Awal as the main suspect.
Shahinuddin was killed over the perpetrators’ attempts to forcibly occupy 20 acres of land in Pallabi’s Alinagar area, she claimed.
After the filing of the case, three accused, former MP of Laxmipur-1 MA Awal, Md Hasan and Zahirul Islam Babu were arrested.
