Another doctor dies from coronavirus

A second doctor, a renowned specialist physician, died from the deadly coronavirus in Bangladesh. Prof Col (retd) Dr Moniruzzaman was a haematologist and laboratory medicine specialist at Anwer Khan Modern Medical College and Hospital.

He breathed his last on Sunday afternoon at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital.

Prof Dr Md Ehteshamul Hoque, the director of Anwer Khan Modern Medical College and Hospital, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

Family sources said Dr Moniruzzaman was suffering from fever and chest pain for the past few days. On Sunday he was rushed to the CMH after falling severely ill. He passed away in the afternoon while undergoing treatment. His samples were then taken for Covid-19 test and the results came positive.

Four doctors at Anwer Khan Modern Medical College and Hospital’s haematology department have been sent to home quarantine and the department is being disinfected right after the Covid-19 confirmation, Dr Md Ehteshamul Hoque said.

Earlier, Dr Md Moyeen Uddin, assistant professor of Medicine at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital,  died from coronavirus  on April 15 while undergoing treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka.
