A segment of Ansar personnel have clashed with the students of Dhaka University (DU). The clash, which started around 9:20pm on Sunday, reportedly left at least 20 students injured.
Students said the injured have been taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
Earlier in the day, a segment of Ansar personnel stormed the Secretariat and detained a number of people, including Boshommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon coordinator and adviser to the interim government Nahid Islam, Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah.
After Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam had announced their detention at the hands of Ansar members in their Facebook posts around 8:30pm, agitated students started gathering at the base of Raju sculpture.
At first, only some students had gathered, but gradually, students from different halls organised with batons and gathered at the TSC. The gathered students chanted slogans such as, “Shoiracharer dalal ra, hushiar, sabdhan” and “Shoiracharer Thikana, Ei Banglai Hobe na.”
Later at 9pm they started heading towards the Secretariat to free the detainees. At that time, Ansar personnel chased the students, and started beating a few people with sticks.
Later, the Ansar members retreated when the students started pelting bricks.
