Anti-terrorism act case: Jamaat secy general, 6 others sent to jail

A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent seven leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including its secretary-general Mia Golam Parwar to jail in a case lodged under the anti-terrorism act.

The other six accused are- Jamaat nayeb-e-amir Mawlana ANM Shamsul Islam, assistant secretary-general Rafiqul Islam Khan, executive council members Ijjat Ullah, Mobarak Hossain, former president of Islami Chhatra Shibir Yeasin Arafat and Md Imam Hossain, personal staff of ANM Shamsul Islam.

Defence counsels, however, argued for their bail. After hearing both sides, the court sent the accused to jail.

Another court on September 10 had placed Mawlana ANM Shamsul Islam and Md Imam Hossain on a four-day remand.
