Application deadline extended for foreign election observers

The Election Commission (EC) extended the application deadline for foreign organisations and journalists to observe the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election to 7 December as four organisations of 12 countries have so far applied till Tuesday, the previously scheduled last date.

Election Commission's additional secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said around 30 observers of four organizations representing 12 countries have so far applied.

Of them, 11 from the African Electoral, four from the South Asian Development Forum, five from the International Republican Institute (IRI) of the US and four from the European Union (EU). These numbers could increase, said Ashok.
